I've read the other posts about concerns when flying below take-off, and it seems that return-to-home and how many satellites are available are of concern. I don't disagree with these concerns, as they are legitimate.
This evening, however, I had a successful and outright-fun flight down into a deep canyon, then back up and out. Based on the AZ Screen Recorder capture, it looks like I always had 12 or more satellites.
I flew in both GPS and ATTI mode.
My quad made it to -289 feet below take-off. I'm sure others have and can go beyond this in the right conditions, like southern Utah or the Grand Canyon area... Or? (Share your vids!)
Ether way, what a fun flight! Be sure to watch in HD and full screen:
