I want to get a phantom and set it up for FPV. I dont want to spend thousands because I will crash this thing I can gaurantee it ;) . So I want to keep cost down. So far my choices are :
1) Phantom 1 quadcopter basic version
2) 2 axis gimbal (http://www.banggood.com/FPV-2-Axis-Brus ... 08068.html)
3) Fatshark Predator video system with CMOS camera
5) 3S 5800mah Zippy lipos (HobbyKing)
6) Spironet antennas

Will this parts work?

I plan to modify the airframe of the phantom 1 to make the 5800mah lipo fit. Will kind of flight time do you think I can expect?

I also plan to mount the CMOS camera on the 2 axis gimbal.

Thoughts?

Just under a thousand bucks. I think my lipo choice might be too heavy though.. 425 grams. These Walkera 5200 lipos are only 317 grams and might work better http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... 0_PRO.html

How much more would a Phantom 2 vision cost?

Edit: I would go with a 3D gimbal.

Agree, keeping the budget low may not mean having to go "old-tech." Also, look in the ads section on this site and craigslist. You can always test fly a phantom before purchasing from a private party locally. But going you route also allows you to upgrade as you go.
