have been calling small airports when within 5 miles
to report I'll fly P4P+ ~5 min. btwn 100-300 ft directly
above me to take still shots, then land; ask if it is problematic,
thus far none have said yes, one said call back when done...
(all those instances were 2-5 miles from airport)

am unclear if procedure is same for bigger airports;
am noncommercial flyer; is it a matter of reporting
& waiting to hear if problematic, or is flying under
300 ft, say, 2-5 miles from major airports NEVER
cleared by phone call just before take-off without
advance paperwork approval?
(am newbie at this, hence...)

Here's one additional tidbit of info:

Airports

Recreational operators are required to give notice for flights within five miles of an airport to both the airport operator and air traffic control tower, if the airport has a tower. However, recreational operations are not permitted in Class B airspace around most major airports without specific air traffic permission and coordination.
