Black pearl shuts off!!!

I purchased a black pearl on eBay. When I first time turned on screen came up and battery level showed it was empty. Plugged in charger over night, battery full green but charge light on monitor was still red. Now when I turn on pearl it stays on a few seconds then shuts down. Is my pearl broken?
