I haven't looked at their kits in a while, are they all still based on the AVL58 transmitter? That one is widely regarded as the least attractive option in terms of performance/price (paging daddyo...)
In general you can do better yourself as long as you're comfortable turning some screws and plugging in a few things. There are no solder, plug-and-play solutions that you can piece together yourself for around / under $450usd depending on certain components you choose.
