For those of us waiting for a Phantom with a zoom lens, there's hope. I just saw a posting on a geospatial newsletter that I subscribe to about DJI's first integrated aerial zoom camera (with gimbal) optimized for still photography, the Zenmuse Z3. See GeoCommunity SpatialNews. I guess if you had an Inspire 1 you could just buy the gimbal and camera. Maybe it's too heavy for a Phantom? Given that the Inspire 1 will probably soon be replaced, I'm not about to go out and buy one.

DJI released the new Zenmuse Z3 camera last week. It's only compatible with the Inspire and can be swapped with the stock camera. DJI has more details about it on their website here.
