I'm looking at getting a new rotor and the Zenmuse for the GH4 when it comes out however I really need a gimbal that can be used handheld as well - I just saw this :

However according to the FAQ's on the DJI site :

"Can the Zenmuse Gimbal work alone?

No, it must work together with DJI Ace One or DJI WooKong-M autopilot systems.
    "

So how do they get this to work ??

The Z15 series of Zenmuse all have their own IMU and controller board so they should be able to work independently of the flight controller.

So why do they say that one is required on the Q&A on their Z-15 page ? http://www.dji.com/product/zenmuse-z15/faq
