Working with DNG images

Whenever I use DNG images in lightroom I can see the image nice and clearly, but whenever I view the jpeg in windows it looks considerably darker than the lightroom preview. This is my first time really using raw images and was wondering if I was missing anything.

The JPG that is embedded in the RAW file (DNG) is a smaller, lower resolution preview of the RAW image. It typically looks inferior to the full size image.

Is there any reason why it appears darker ? And do you know how I would export the image so it looks how it does in Lightroom.
