I've flown with both wifi/hotspotting and not (either because not needed or too lazy or forgot). It really makes no difference in all of my flights.
Some guys however are distance getters and feel like they need to be so isolated to get the furthest range to prove their manhood. I say just fly the thing with all resources you can/want to use and ENJOY your flight time to accomplish your goals! If you want to hot spot your internet to your tablet then rock on dude!
I've gone more than 1.5 miles while I hot spot in an urban area (residential/wifi flooded) with no issues. Never did a distance flight to get greater than 1.5 miles so can't speak past them limits.
