When using the Nvidia Shield's HMDI output port, does the screen blank or continue to function as normal?

I am asking because I may want to use the HDMI port to send video to a set of HDMI goggles.

i just ordered my shield as well, both that and my p3 showing up next week... so you have the option with the HDMI out on the shield to mirror or just display.. mirrored mode is lower res, the other mode is higher res, but doesnt show anything on the tablet.
I want to do exactly what you are saying too... use HDMI mirrored out to a pair of goggles.
do you have a pair of goggles in mind? i have no idea which ones would work well

mirror mode works fine - use it with a carl zeiss cinemizer
