What to do if you "lost" compass (compass error) while flying ?

Since many of us have complaint for compass error, i think it would be usefull to hear from experienced pilots what to do if we lost compass while flying. For example, as you fly, the drones enters an area with strong magnetic field (power wires, antennas etc) and you suddenly get an "compass error" message in your controller. The question is : What you should do ? Does the RTH feature will work ? or compass error makes RTH unusable ? if you have optical contact with your drone is it wise to return to ATTI mode or thing will go more bad ?
