I purchased some new props on Amazon, authentic DJI props.

As soon as you start to thread them they are rather tight turning all the way down.

The ones that came with the Phantom would spin free all the way down.

So which ones are the self tightening?

Self-tightening refers to the direction of the thread of the propeller relative to the direction of spin of the motor. They are designed such that when the motor spins, the torque is in the direction of screwing the prop on, rather than screwing it off.

If your propellers threaded on with friction, you should double check to make sure they are OEM.
