What does it take to ruin a motor?

My drone is in a tree. At least one motor got tangled. The others were revving for a bit (10 to 30 secs maybe) till I did CSC. I tried to retrieve but it will require professional help (I.e. $$$$).

I'm pretty sure no damage but am wondering if the motor could have burned out or if it's smart enough not to send current to the motor if it's stalled by being bound up.

Thanks guys. It will help me understand my calculus for paying for retrieval vs buying an AC/camera only.

Is the tree ok?? The motors most likely will be ok, it's the camera that'd be a concern if damaged.
