What do you need for ground station?

Is the custom wifi data module required for every case?
I plan on buying the phantom vision+ and then i already have a wifi connection of 500-700m range or more...

I wonder if you then still need the whole ground station package to control the vision+....or just the ipad app.

Dji is expected to release an update for the app that will allow waypoints. It should come out any day now.

To answer your question, the Groundstation hardware (aka 2.4GHz Data Link) is not compatible with P2V/P2V+

As the poster above mentions, those models of Phantoms are supposed to get waypoint functionality via an app update. DJI says it is coming soon, but they've been saying that for over 4 months now and keep pushing it back, so it's up to you how much faith to put in any announcement like that before it's actually released.
