What are the Cloud altitude?

Does anyone know if some clouds hover under 500m. I need to get a sunset or rise shot just over the clouds.

They vary each day and yes they can be under 500m or even ground level which is known as fog.

If you know the temperature and dew point for your city, you can also calculate the base by this formula for Farenheit: ((Temp - Dew) / 4.4) x 1000 ...For example, currently it's 73F temp with a dew point of 66F, so.... ((73-66) / 4.4) x 1000 = ( 7/4.4) x 1000 = 1.590 x 1000 = 1,590 feet for cloud base. When in celsius just divide by 2.5.

How high is it from the earth to the clouds?

However, when fog initially lifts, it looks like a layer of clouds but it's nowhere near 2000 feet.
