I have been using my Tab 4 as a phone and screen for my P3P and even though I have gone through the ritual of rebooting the phone then clearing the memory, closing all the running programs and going onto flight mode I have always had about 500ms delay in the video. I have now bought a separate phone and want to dedicate this Tab 4 as a screen for my P3P. I would like to remove all apps I have loaded and disable any other apps that will not be required to run the DJI software.... can you please help me and tell me which I should definitely keep on the phone?

Thanks
Jase

That's going to really depend on what you need and use. There are imbedded apps that you can't remove. The ones you can are any downloaded apps you don't use anymore.. Most phones or tablets have a way to back up to another device. I would do that just incase you delete something you need so you can restore it. Got d luck!

You should get rid of YouPorn. Very distracting to see teens getting it on while flying your bird.

By the way, I am going to fly a Typhoon H in a week or so, POSSIBLY MINE! I am so excited and then the Phantom release! This is an exciting week for drones.

Pre-ordered Typhoons, prepare!

Important thing to do is turn on developer options under settings and select no background apps. This will help your video feed and app to run better. I have a galaxy tab 8.4 pro I use just for flying. I have turned most apps off I cant delete. Only have google maps, dji app, hd sync and photo/video gallery turned on. Set all apps not to auto update in the play store as well. This has worked well for me so far.

This is good advice. Just make sure there is nothing that won't kill your resident memory if you are using a phone that can't spare it or if you need it during flight. I would kill any cell service or even text, unless you want to be bothered while flying (hint: you don't). If you can afford it, and I realize everyone can't, just get a device dedicated to the bird. I have several iPads and my mini 2 is my bird flying machine. Love it. Don't get the air. It's great if you are seated but it just gets too big after 20 minutes IMO. Some swear by it though. It all depends on who you are and what you like. Everybody is different. I will see if you try an Air, before you love it, use it for another hour. It's awesome, but a little big for my taste. If you want that large, get am HDMI output module and get yourself a video monitor like a pro. HAPPY FLYING Friends!

I have just done this with a samsung tab s 8.4 that i bought to use as a dedicated screen. I just went down the list deleting everything i know i wouldnt be needing, including google play store. The tab is looking pretty bare now but runs the fpv so much smoother. Dont delete google play services as you need that for your maps!
i dont know if this is the way it should be done but it has worked for me.

Thanks guys, yes this will be used as a dedicated screen now. I have deleted all my uploaded apps except GO ;) and disabled all that I thought I could. I didn't touch any system type files/apps. It is pretty bare now with even the data been deleted from mail, phone, calendar etc. I'm still not getting the 500ms latency delay down by much. Maybe 400 - 450ms, I haven't timed it but that's what it feels like. For the type of video shooting I do, its just too slow. I still prefer the 5.8 vtx systems because of their much better latency. Hopefully DJI will look into this as the rest of the machine is so nice.

If it works for you, that's 100% the way it should be done. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. Unless of course, you are doing damage you don't know about. You're not. Good work.

Root your tablet (go to XDA Developers to find out how) and install a slimmed down rom that has all the unnecessary crap taken out. I personally root all my android devices and uninstall a bunch of stuff.

The first tablet I tried to set as a "designated" flying tab was the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7", even with a custom rom, stripped of all crud I never did get it to work without noticeable lag.
I ended up returning it to stock, returning it to the store, and spending a little extra on an Nvidia Shield K1, which worked great right out of the box, no mods needed.

Like others, my Ipad Air 2 worked well, but was just too bulky. The 8" Shield seems to be a perfect fit.

I've been using a Tab 4 for a few months without any issues. However, on my last flight I took a few videos, but they don't show up on the (DJI GO APP). All the pictures synced just fine. But the video won't sync. I know the video is on the SD card because it works fine on my computer. Any thoughts would be appreciated . Thanks!

Disregard my last post please. Problem solved. I deleted everything off the SD card. Just took a quick flight and the video is syncing fine once again. Don't know what caused my problem (SD card was not even close to capacity). But whatever... Seems fine once again.
