In the firmware update thread I am referring to, a statement is made that firmware updates aren't Phantom version-specific. This surprised me. I am interested only because I just ordered an FC40 for experimentation purposes, and I didn't think the 3.06 update would apply to it. Does it?

I believe it's a Phantom 2 update only.

The thread was locked due to it being a duplicate thread. If you have a question as to if the new update 3.0.6 works on a FC-40 if you consult the thread you would see the first line says "A new firmware v3.06 has been released for Phantom 2 series" so no, it will not. If you want answers to this question I would suggest you edit your title to reflect your question.
