Want to protect my IPAD

Hey guys,
I use an IPAD Air1 on my P3P rig. The stock holder extends to just barely fit the Ipad (by itself). Having dropped a few IPADs in my time, I am very wary of taking my IPAD out of its protective case and attaching it to the controller (alone). I get very nervous thinking the IPAD is going to flip out of the clamp and hit the dirt (again).
It would be great if the holder extended just another 3/4 inch or so; I could keep the IPAD in it's protective case and just attach it to the controller.
Plus, I have a sun shade that fits between the back of the IPAD and the holder. The extenders on the top and bottom could be another quarter of an inch or so longer to accommodate them together. Again, I am very nervous that the IPAD will flip out of the holder.
Has anyone found options to meet these two challenges?

The Inspire 1 device holder is $30, well worth the investment.
It is just big enough to hold my iPad Air 2, very securely.
Never have to worry about it coming loose. It's good to go...
I don't use a visor or hood, but if I did, I would modify it, to fit the Inspire 1 device holder. ;-)
