The subject above may be a little misleading but, if I have your attention, what I'm doing here is mounting a GoPro Black+ on the back of the Phantom pointed straight down. I will be doing some field crop video for my nephew and thought it might be good to use the Vision camera to watch out for upcoming trees while shooting the GoPro video straight down.
The mount is made of 3/16" (4.5mm) foam board with paper backing and weighs about 13.5 grams. I did a little testing yesterday in windy conditions and saw a little jello but not too bad, probably good enough for crop inspection. I'm thinking, however, of improvising a cushioned mount of some kind.

You'll need to keep an eye on your total weight with everything you're adding for the gopro, esp if you're going to put on a separate iOSD and FPV setup too. I'm guessing you would be pushing close to 1600g with all that on there.

Pretty cool design. I'm curious to see some video from that. Post it when you've got it :p

I'll continue using the Vision+ camera and App for FPV and OSD. I use my iphone to control the Gopro via WIFI and was concerned with interference with the Vision+ app since they are both 2.4 mhz but didn't experience any problem so far. (Running the Vision+ app on my Kindle tablet.)
I didn't notice any difference in the flight characteristics after adding the mount with GoPro but I'm sure is has some effect on total flight time given the additional weight of about 85 grams. The weight to the rear of the Phantom may actually help it's balance.
I'll get some crop monitoring video hopefully this weekend. Also going to be filming a bicycle rally this weekend.

Sorry, I can't answer the range question. I've never checked it.
