Hey guys,
We got some awesome feedback from you guys last time about our work on vision-based tracking and intelligence for drones. We've been busy, we created a demo video of our tech working live on drones. Check it out here:

Based on all your comments we improved our algorithms and packaged them into a feature-rich product for aerial film-makers that we’re pretty excited to share with you all today.

It’s called the SHIFT and it’s a film-maker’s smart upgrade kit for drones that simplifies many of the complexities of filming with a flying camera. The SHIFT plugs into your autopilot (currently supporting DJI and 3DR) and partially takes over control of the drone and gimbal to let you auto-frame moving subjects and fly smooth, precise paths - totally sweat free.

Thanks to an overwhelming response from aerial filmmakers we’re now launching a pre-order campaign for the SHIFT on our website: http://www.flytheshift.com

We’re working with film-makers on a whole lot more features to add new levels of creative freedom to aerial filming. Like us on facebook and we’ll keep you updated! If you guys have more questions, feel free to ask. And for all you aerial cinematographers around do read our FAQ or contact us directly :) We’d love to hear from you!

Yup! For the Vision+, there will be a slightly different external camera mount, than the GoPro mount that we have prototyped. The rest of the electronics, controls and results will be the same :).

Good idea but the brain looks a little heavy, what is its weight?
I read that it weighs less than 200g so 199g :D

What stops the quad from following you into a tree? I noticed in their videos that the quads seemed to brake before hitting trees. Or were they controlled by humans?

Hello!

So this tool is different from Follow-Me. We believe that a "blind" follow-me feature is not very useful. Instead, we have created a toolkit for aerial cinematographers that use the Phantom for complex aerial shots. Ultimately, they want to fly the drone and control the shot. With the SHIFT they can do that without having to fidget and try and co-ordinate the gimbal wheel and yaw.

Feel free to reach out for more questions! :)

The information I'm now seeing is that this device only controls the camera and centers it on the subject. The operator still needs to fly the done. I could be incorrect though.
