    Hi guys
I am new to this game, but I notice most of the video footage posted are hunting in and out of focus.
    Is this normal?

Not normal because it's a fixed focus lens

Perhaps an effect created by YouTube compression?

Or high contrast scenery coupled with spot metering...

I think that has to do with youtube compression. My videos look perfect on my laptop and then once they are uploaded to youtube they kinda look how you describe.

Yeah I've seen youtube videos where you would see a bunch of compression artifacts which gradually clears up over a couple of seconds, and then a bunch of compression artifacts again which gradually clears up... over and over

Could be mistaken for focus hunting I guess

I always select "best" quality when I upload so it does not get altered too much.
It does take longer to upload and process but thats ok.

Also youtube does dynamically change the download resolution depending on how good your internet connection is.
