Can anyone recommend an app that I can use to merge my vids . I think it's about time I started to understand a bit more so I can show others my videos I've taken

There are tons out there.... I personally use Corel visual studio..

Maybe I will shock You, but for editing videos from P3 I use....GoPro Studio

I'm using moviemaker, but just got sony vegas, so I'm learning that. haven't had any issues with merging or converting videos, but I was just like you, didn't know spit about how videos are rendered or edited or anything. Cheap is how to start out though. Something you have or can get for free. Some of these editing programs are incredibly expensive, and you don't want to invest in one until you know what it does, and if you like it.

If you just want to join video segments into one file without re-coding, try MP4BOX GUI.
My MP4Box GUI 0.6.0.6

You demux each file.(takes the h.264 out of mp4 container) Then take the demuxed files into the joiner.
Select "save as" Click join and you have one mp4 file in original quality.
It only takes 5 minutes to join several large files as there is no re-coding.
