Using Anker iPhone Battery Case with Phantom 3 Pro

My iPhone 6 battery often died before I was ready to stop flying. So I bought the Anker Ultra Slim Extended Battery Case for iPhone 6/6s.

The microUSB port on the battery case transfers the signal from the P3 controller to the iPhone just fine and the battery case charged the phone while I was flying.
However, now it stops charging the phone as soon as I plug in the cable from the controller. I'm not sure why the sudden change in behavior unless a controller firmware update or an iOS update changed something.
I've tried various cables with no change.

Anyone else using an Anker iphone battery case with the P3 Pro/Adv?

I have a standard and a pro. When I fly my standard I use a life proof fre power case on an iPhone 6. Once I connect to the controller I have to turn on my case. After that I'm all good. It charges while I fly
