I shall upgrade my DJI phantom to an F450 frame as I need more space for OSD, brushless gimbal and FPV setup....

I have ordered the F450 ARTF kit and landing skids...

From the phantom I shall take the NAZA controller .....any ideas about the GPS/compass ?

I've heard some people have had problems trying to re-use the compass/GPS out of a Phantom.

The GPS location can be set with X,Y and Z(the Z is the least sensitive, thus no need to be super accurate) so you can mount it anywhere but the compass you have to install it as close to when it's in the Phantom as possible. As close I mean the distance from the NAZA in all 3 dimensional measurement.
You may want to protect the GPS too from both structural damages and signal interference. DIY from the big bottle cap with home made post and use copper foil for the latter.
    Good luck
