Is it necessary to upgrade the firmware on the controller? It has a USB port but plugging it into my PC and turning on the Phantom doesnt seem to do anything. Is it upgraded over the air by the Phantom when the Phantom is plugged into the USB? Or does the controller just not need upgrading?

Connect the controller to your PC directly with a USB cable and use the RC assistant to update and calibrate your controller. The Phantom does not need to be connected or powered up.

Is the procedure written somewhere? When I plug in the controller via USB and load the Assistant sw its like the sw doesnt see the controller. Theres no acknowledgement its plugged in, none of the options can be changed etc.

You have the driver installed? I guess you do if you can use the Phantom assistant with the Phantom?

Stupid question but you are using the RC assistant and not the Phantom assistant?

Try a different USB cable if it still does not work.
