P3P's (and other Phantoms) do not usually come with the latest firmware. You should check and upgrade if needed (or desired).
My P3A came with the latest firmware last month (1.2.8) but new firmware came out last week. I think as long as they were made after the firmware ships, they have it loaded on them. But if you order from Amazon for example, you could get one that was in inventory for a month. So you never know until you get it. But firmware is just software for hardware easily updated!
