Tx calibration and battery firmware update

I realise this is 2 questions but im hoping blade is going to jump all over this and answer them both for us all to know.
1st is is the tx calibration really important and how should we do it.

2nd is will the battery's update if the controller is switched on first. I know you said the other day to leave the firmware bin file on the memory card in case the battery ever needs to update, but will they still update with the controller on just before a flight during the warm up stage say, or should we go through the firmware update from time to time to make sure the battery is up to date all so.
 
Tx calibration can only be done when craft is powered down. I have only been required to calibrate once. This is when I took the tx from a warm car and exposed it to below freezing temps. The controller warned me of this and required a calibration.

Just leave the bin on the SD card and power up the craft as normal. If the battery requires an update it will prompt you on screen. Click yes and the craft will perform the battery update.
