I know how the track mode works but I have seen on a few YouTube videos where they are talking about how the phantom can pan around (rotate) the object it is following. I'm guessing that while tracking you can still use the transmitter to rotate and the phantom continues to track.

Has anyone tried this who might shed some light on this for me. Thank you.

Sure. You have to use transmitter to fly left/right.

    Thank you.

Does the Phantom keep the same distance and height as what you start the track mode in? Can you change this during active tracking?

Here is a video I did. You can still control the P4 while in Activetrack. If you hold the pitch left it right it will cirlcle the target or if you you hold it until it gets on the side of the target and back off a little you can maintain the same speed as the target for side shots. Same thing front from.
I showed some of this in my video.

No. You have to maintain height if you start going up and down hills.
