A simple but effective tool. The groove does not need to be this wide, just wide enough to clear the pin diameter. I did this with a 1/4" endmill but a much smaller groove cut with a Dremel type tool would suffice. Using the tool allows reuse of the plastic drop pin and washer.
I've used small zip ties to replace anti-drop pins and that works fine also.
