Things are tough in New Zealand

swamp them with requests to fly.
1 for every flight on every day all in separate letters
get local clubs involved
include a risk assessment for every flight

wow... bureaucracy at it's finest... create a policy that is so demanding you have essentially made illegal something that is by all intents and purposes legal. Does NZ not have a maximum height for non-commercial aircraft?

I've heard folks praising these new restrictions as if they were great for the hobby. Strong government restrictions simply punish the people who fly responsibly and shouldn't have to suffer at the hands of a few fools.

But that is true with most laws and restrictions.

True, but to what extent? Filling out flight plans? Waiting 5 days?
Restricted airspace is fine when people's safety is involved. But this stuff is nuts.

Ever hear of a pendulum?

This was in our local paper today
