Hi guys,

Taking my first flight out today with a larger screen AKA a mini iPad 2(wi-fi) from my previous flights with my iPhone. With regards to updating maps and home point potential issues, if I tether the internet connection from my iPhone 6s will this solve the problems and be suffice?

Thanks in advance. [emoji3][emoji1360]

Hi Doc. Just cache the map of the area you will be flying at by opening the Go App at home . Make sure your tablets wifi is on, open up the Go App, tap on the map in the bottom left of the main screen and move the map to the area you will be flying at. Next go to the top right of the screen and tap on the icon with 3 dots and a drop down menu called General Settings will appear. You should see ' Cache Map in the Background ' on the list. Slide the selector so it goes green, if it's green already then slide it off and on again to be on the safe side then press the X in the top right to exit the menu. Thats it, map cached. When you get to where you want to fly just do a Compass Calibration and this will create your Homepoint. Also make sure the tablets WiFi is switched off before you fly. Job done. Enjoy your flight.

For the record if you forget to cache the maps while at home,(I did as I was excited) then yes you can tether the iPad and iPhone whilst at the location to get the maps in dji go app and once that's done turn wifi off. The Vic has explained the process of caching maps, good luck and happy flying.

What home point potential issues ??
You don't need any internet connection to fly a Phantom.
And if you forget to cache maps, that doesn't affect your flying either.

Thanks 'The Vic'. Once I cached the maps do I need to leave everything on whilst I travel the location or can I switch everything off and turn back on when I get there?

@Meta4 Regarding home point issues, I thought you would need gps of some sort to update the home point whilst out on location. Was a bit concerned as I will be using my iPad mini 2 (wifi)

You would only need to update your home point if you are moving around a great distance while flying, as in flying from a moving car or boat, and want to reset your home point to the current location of you and the controller.
For that you would need a GPS enabled phone or tablet.

But that's fairly specialised and most flyers never use that feature at all.
For normal flight where the launch point is the only homepoint, the GPS in the Phantom is all you need.

Excellent. That's put my mind at ease thank you. Now just to sort this Ground Station issues out with not finding my Phantom!! [emoji3][emoji1360]
