Testing the G-2D white, N1-OSD, 900MHz Tx/Rx on FC40

Hey IflyinWY, I have been practicing more soldering. I have a glider that I have been upgrading and so far so good. There are a ton of videos on youtube that I watched before I jumped back into it.

The OSD that Tallyrver posted just got the price lowered it is now $37.79. I will have to see if any soldering is required and if I should just go ahead and attempt it.

Good news about you finding your soldering iron. One of those sites drops the price on the product if you hesitate for about 5 minutes. I don't think any of the OSD units require soldering, it's just wires together and to your board kinda stuff.

FYI: If you click on the location someone puts under the Avatar, it opens up a map... too cool.

Don't you just love Biddinghuizen :)

Will come by with my boat this summer again.
Do not be surprised if I buzz your balcony :)
Yeah it's a great place, not the village itself though. But 'de Buitenplaats Veluwemeer' and it's surroundings is beautiful.

Buzz my balcony anytime! I join you straight away.
Was it you I saw flying last summer evening at the water ski party?

COOL feature, now we can really stalk the hell out of each other. LOL
Funny, if I click on my location, which I call the Lowlands, which stands for the Netherlands, it finds a location actually not very far from my place.
Clever Google.
Good old Ray Kurzweil, Google him, he's one of my science heroes, along the obvious ones. He's propelling Googles intelligence forward ever since he became director of science there.

Ah, though you might be, I was looking for my lost RC-Logger quad (flew into the lake but I hoped I would find it near the shore) and I saw a Phantom flying high above the beach. First time I ever saw one. Didn't even know they existed until then. Immediately ordered a FC40 (because i lost my Gopro with the RC-Logger as well) at V-Vix and later the P2 at Toemen (my bad).

Back to topic. It works like a charm and I just love the FC40/P1 concept of freedom of choice!!

you will need an FDTI usb adapter if you want to customize the display. like changing from metric etc.it does not come with it,they are cheap.it will work out of the box,but i changed mine

Thanks for letting me know, thats the reason I just ordered the OSD that Talltyrver posted along with that usb card to control the settings from the computer. Its going to take 20 days to get here its coming from China. Just have to get the other parts ordered. I may go with the Boscam telemetry because a few reviews so far say its the best for the lower price point.

Hey OP, what exact FPV system are you running?

If you are interested I have compiled all off the parts I just bought for my setup. Maybe there are a few things that could have been cheaper, but I liked that the monitor had a built in battery.

I have to get a better antenna for the transmitter, but I will be happy just getting everything setup on the quad first.

No problem I will post pics once I have everything setup. I'm just not sure when because the stuff coming from China is going to be slow.

I use a 900Mhz, 800W Tx from Hobbyking and the corresponding Rx. The Rx feeds into a 7" screen with built in DVR (and it's own built in 5.8 diversity Rx which I don't use on the FC40), it's the RC732-DVR from Banggood.
For this test I used a Sony 600TVL FPV camera because I wanted to see the movements from the quad, compared to the stabile gimbal/gopro image.
After this test I decided to run the Gopro through the FPV so the FPV image is the same.

Very satisfied with it so far.
The FPV range is at least 800m (with clear reception) because that was the limit yesterday when the FC40 refused to go any further.

Great post Lake Flyer. I like the audio, just turned down. The sound may be the first indication to folks who have never experienced VRS. It will get your attention if nothing else does.

At least, on the video, afterwards, you can hear when VRS is occurring. Outside, flying 600 feet out, I don't hear the props at all. I can only watch the descend rate on the screen. If the FPV image is stabilised, you can only recognise VRS, watching the motor arms snapping quickly in and out of view, while seeing on your OSD the descend rate is suddenly increasing.

But as you see in the video it all happens in a split second. And very unexpectedly, even when you deliberately descend too fast. It takes half a second to shoot into VRS and about 3 to get out. It the 3 seconds you can easily lose another 20-30 feet or so. Best thing is to immediately let go of both sticks and let it find balance itself. Anything you try with pitch, roll or throttle, has a negative effect and increases VRS even further. Tried this also high up and really, there's little more you can do then just doing nothing at all.

Let it bleed out if you're high enough. Don't counter react.
For FPV beginners I would suggest a separate non stabilised FPV camera, like I used in this video. That's the only way to know what your quad is actually doing when beyond LineOfSight.
.....and hearing of props :)

Looks like this will get you started.
Is the monitor a non blue screen? On some monitors if the video signal gets weak the screen turns blue, a non blue screen shows static until the signal gets better.
