This may sound a bit strange and I don't know ill ever try it but....

Can one take off from a distant location?

Say I fly 1/2 mile away and land somewhere. Can I stop the motors and then restart and take off again? As long as there is a signal there shouldn't be an issue right?

Any input is appreciated!

As far as you are in clear LOS (Line of sight), you can take off from a distance. Either you or P3 should be on a higher level.

It would be a fun to start and fly from a distance.

You would need to know that the area where you intend to land is dead flat, otherwise there's a danger the Phantom may tip over when you re-launch.

It's totally up to the quality of signal you have. Camera down can give you a view of the landing area or drive over there first and scope out the landing site and verify ground and cover. I do it at a neighbor field where I have a landing board of 3x3. Takes practice. After I land I sometime walk over and see how far I missed or hit my intended landing area. Careful as tip overs are eaiser when you are not right there to see wind movements.
