when I took off this morning with the app on the DJI go the bird rose to about 12 feet and then came back down to the 3 foot level as it had done on previous flights.
    Any idea on this one?

Your take off surface may have made it difficult for the sensors to get a good reading on take off. I always take off and land manually, I have never even tried the auto stuff. It is so so easy to take off and land this bird I enjoy doing this myself, I prefer being in control of my craft.
