Take off from altitude

Hi,
I am a new owner P3A. Flew a couple flights but the weather has been marginal so not a lot. Upcoming weather is going to improve so I hope for a couple of additional hours flight time with weekend.
RC airplane pilot for a long time. I lost interest because local flying field was closed.
Thought about this even with RC aircraft; if I take off from altitude say 2000' will the P3A think 2000' is ground level or try to fly down to below 400' AGL? The idea is taking off from a mountain top and flying out over the valley at 2000' or higher AGL.

Your Phantom thinks the takeoff point is 0 feet. If you fly below that, you'll see a negative altitude in DJI GO.

[Currently] your P3 can fly to +500m or to -200m relative to takeoff altitude.
