Stock Vision+ 3KM Range Test

Unsure whether this is due to Parameter Unit between Imperial and Metric in the app. I may try Imperial unit next time. I know such Distance showing N/A is hard coded in the app as I reviewed the coding of previous versions.

I further tested the Android app 1.0.40, which is still showing N/A after 2000m. I then changed the Parameter Unit from Metric to Imperial, and now it can show Distance >10000ft (3049m). A friend of mine flew his bird to >3000m on iOS app 1.0.37 without problem.

I wonder why DJI put a 2000m limit on Metric of the Android app, but no limit on Imperial and iOS app. :?:

This is my first long range FPV test on stock Vision+ aircraft. My setup are as below:

- Stock Vision+ aircraft
- Homebrew LHCP helical antenna
- Rocket M2 AP/Repeater (configured 23dBm 200mW TX power)
- 5.8G Transmitter with 11dBi/14dBi patch panel
11dBi 45-degree beam width http://www.amazon.com/JMT-High-gain-Ant ... B00FGLBA1G
14dBi 35-degree beam width http://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Antenna- ... B00JIKTGJO
- Rooted Nexus 7 (2012 model) running Android 4.4 Vision app 1.0.39 with Preview Quality 640x480 15fps

Hi, I'm having problem with my vision+ where I lost video preview regardless of what preview settings I chose. Bought booster app but haven't got the chance to try it as I was called up to work. From your experience, will the booster help my black screen preview issue?

also, you mentioned above you're using the patch panel antenna together with helical antenna, would it be suffice to use just the patch antenna?

If you have encountered black out preview even in short range, then the booster app is unlikely to help. What version of VISION app are you using on iOS/Android?

The 5.8G patch is for control link, while 2.4G helical is for Wifi FPV. My setup of both 5.8G control link and 2.4G FPV can reach 3km+ without the booster app nor 2.4G/5.8G amplifier.

Here is the video I took a week ago.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwIkHIp6dGE

Dji Vision App: 1.0.40
P2V+ updated to latest firmware as of 22nd May 2014
Tested on Sony Xperia Z1 Android KitKat, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android KitKat, Xiaomi MI2S Android Jelly Bean.
First maiden flight got video for the first 60m or so and lost video preview. 2nd flight same and 3rd flight onward after that no video preview.

One more thing, your app boosted FPV link which it mightbe outrange the tx, so it would not be a problem if I use a patch panel antenna+rangebooster amp for the 5.8ghz together with the booster app right?

but yeah, need to sort the problem with preview first.

Regarding black out preview, you may try using previous version VISION app 1.0.39, and set 640x480@15fps or lower. May also try to move repeater several meters away from P2V+ aircraft.

I have some very interesting findings on the new Vision+:
- Vision+ aircraft Wifi module TX power is substantially lower (I estimate only 10-20mW) than original Vision camera (100-125mW), but the stock Vision+ FPV range is double. This is likely due to DJI using a new communication protocol on Vision+, and I guess it's similar to Lightbridge.
- Android Vision app 1.0.39 is still showing N/A beyond 2KM, comparing to previous version showing N/A beyond 1KM.
- 3-axis gimbal is very stable, and no post video processing of stabilization required.
- I love flying "FPV Mode" instead of conventional video mode, which let me have some sort of Top Gun (or Superman) feel.

I noticed while watching your vid as soon as the app goes to N/A the satellites are no longer lit up blue
Great range

That's what I'm worrying very much when the satellite icon greyed out, as my P2V went down (auto-landing into a pond) likely due to home-point/satellite reset somehow during RTH.

I did notice that on the return to home flight while it was greyed out at 9 sats it switched to 10 before it became blue again. I believe that's a positive sign.

When I flew beyond 2000m and Parameter Unit is set to Metric on previous Android Vision apps (1.0.39 & 1.0.40), it would show Distance "N/A" and satellite icon greyed out. When I flew back within 2000m, both Distance and satellite icon were back to normal. I'm unsure whether DJI fixed this in the latest Android 1.0.52 though.
