DJI says that FCC Communication Distance is 800 meters (http://www.dji.com/products/compare-phantom)
In the video below I only used the FPV booster app on my iPhone. I was sitting in my car, and held the controller as stable as possible, pointed at the Phantom. of course at some point I could not see it, but I did the best I could.

VERY happy with the results! All stock!

    Nice.

    On a side note...
    What country you in?
I noticed your satelite count maybe problematic in confined or geographically raised areas. Worst that can happen is it may drop into ATTI and you'll end up with a drift-away or auto-land-away.
In an open field like that, you should be getting 9+.
Does satelites drop when you hit the record button?
If so, may need to put a tin foil hat on your phantom.

    Very nice!

    Two questions.

    1) the kompas shows the Bird a bit to the right. Does this mean your not directly painting at it?
    2) you stay quite low. I always have a feeling the connection is better if you fly a bit higher, better LOS. Is this true?

    Thanx for the vid!
