My phantom seems to have started 'spitting and sputtering' while in flight. I know this sounds crazy, but it making crazy actions and my feed to my iphone comes in and out, even while only feet away. Any suggestions?

I would think "spitting and sputtering" indicates that a crash is immanent if you continue to fly it. I would ship it back if it is still under warranty. But whether still under warranty or not, it sounds like a mechanical repair is needed. Possibly a motor replacement is needed or a loose connection fixed. Not sure about the feed.
If feed as well as flight it is battery related - check connections are clean, It may be a wiring fault as well.
