I thought I saw some videos saying don't calibrate the compass near a cell phone....what about the DroneMods UAVLocator? Isn't that just a phone mounted to the Phantom? Or...am I misunderstanding.

DJI suggest that a cell phone in your pocket might interfere with calibration
But to address the OP's question .. it is important whenever you change the configuration of your bird (like attaching additional equipment) that you recalibrate the compass. This is to allow your Phantom to properly understand the new magnetic environment your compass has to deal with in flight rather than have it thinking everything is still the same and have problems because what it thinks is north isn't now.
So go ahead and recalibrate after you fit the new tracker.

so, if the device is permanently influencing the here and now of the quad....not "something in the neighborhood", it will become part of the programming. nice.,thank you. makes sense.
