RTH goes straight down...

Hi, all. I knew about the "20m" rule and RTH, but my question is, "why?" I'm curious why RTH is programmed that way.

Well if you think about it. Lets say you have your RTH height set at 100'. Would it make sense with the P3 about 55' away to raise up 100' return 55' horizontal and then lower 100' again?

20 meters is close enough. If that does not work you are close enough to take control and fly it back closer. RTH really was not designed for a autoland.

I understand the 20m distance but what about the altitude not changing from 0.0 when I input a return altitude of 30m

Not sure I understand your question. How can it return at zero alt?

It should return at what you have it set at or higher if you are currently higher than your RTH height.

As an example if you have height set at 30 meters and you are flying at 100 meters when RTH kicks in then it will return at current 100 meters.

The only time it will change is if you are lower than your set point. So if you are set at 30 meters and flying at 10 meters it will raise to 30 and fly home.
