If your Phantom is within 20 meters of the home point when RTH is initiated, it will auto land at its current location instead of returning home.
If your Phantom is more than 20 meters from the home point when RTH is initiated, it will ascend to the set RTH altitude and then return to the home point. While it's ascending to the RTH altitude, it will start returning back to the home point right away if you press the throttle stick after it has reached 20 meters (and before it's at the RTH altitude).
Thanks. The behavior of the second condition wasn't clear to me in the original DJI phrasing.
The first one presents a dilemma for me as my backyard takeoff and landing real estate is limited to about a 5m chimney through the tree canopy. So if I'm more than 5m but less than 20m and RTH is initiated I'll need to respond quickly otherwise it'll be tree climbing time.
