I have been using a red ribbon hanging from the lower left skid to determine orientation when the Phantom is far away. Today I was descending rapidly & the ribbon was pulled up into a prop & wrapped around the motor. The quad flipped upside down & fell 30 feet before crashing. Fortunately it landed on 3 foot long grass so no damage was done. So if you use this ribbon idea make sure the ribbon only hangs down 5" so that it can't reach the props.

you could you longer paper ribbon, so if it does hit a prop it just cuts it in two.
