When i make still images with my P4, the JPEG image is 8 megapixels large, at 4000x2250 pixels. The RAW image that is made simultaneously in 'J+R-mode' however, is only 940x 540 pixels. Very small indeed and too small for larger prints.
How can I fix this?

You could try looking at the real image files from your SD card instead of preview sized ones from the app.
In your camera settings select 3:2 image format to get the largest image size.
Max Image Size
3:2 Aspect Ratio: 5472 × 3648
4:3 Aspect Ratio: 4864 × 3648
16:9 Aspect Ratio: 5472 × 3078

I did take the real image files. The JPGs are ok when it comes to resolution, the RAWs are much smaller. Any idea why that is?

It must be that you are looking at a preview thumbnail rather than the real raw file.
Are you looking at a .dng file?
What software are you using to open it?

I ran into similar issue. The default program for opening the file on Windows10 (Photos) only displayed a very low res picture. Once I opened the file from my photo editing software (Corel Paint Shop Pro) it displayed the full resolution and related metadata.
