Replacing the stock controller

Have anyone replaced the stock tx/rx with any other controller?

I'm considering buying a DX8, for use with the phantom and future rc toys.

Does anyone have experience with this? Is it tricky to make all the features work?
I've done some research, and it seem pretty straight forward with everything but the RTH feature. But would love some feedback if anyone have actually done it.
