Remove gimbal for learning flights?

Thank you all for your comments - I appreciate your perspectives.

I have been practicing with my Syma and am already better! This will certainly boost my confidence when I take the P2 V+ out. I think, at this point, that I will take the gimbal/camera off and just work to improve my line-of-sight control near the ground.

I don't think you really need to take Gimble off. If you have learned the basic controls with your Syma you will be fine. The Phantom is 100 times easier to fly than the Syma because of GPS and the fact that it hovers automatically. Use your Phantom as it is and continue to build skills with your Syma. If you are going to have problems to where you are going to HAVE to take over your Phantom manually chances are that will be some time down the road. I myself would never fly my Phantom manually unless I absolutely had to. That's just me. If I want something fun to fly manually that does flips and stuff I just use my HUBSAN.
