I'VE read good and bad here about using non DJI batteries. Would like some real life experiences about using non DJI batteries. I just can't believe that companies would make a product that will not work. Do you really think that DJI has a factory that makes just their batteries . Just from life experiences I seen a lot of products out there with different names but come from the same place. Sure sometimes they may use different materials
in a same item. Just trying to cutoff some of the responses here for things I know already. Finally what I want is actual problems you experience with batteries that you can directly relate to the battery not just opinions from what guys read, Sorry for carrying on , just want some honest good input. Thanks guys.

I do truley think that dji makes their own battery's.. Which is in part why the prices of their battery's have dropped so much since all these aftermarket battery's started coming out.. They were loosing a lot of battery sales so they lowerd the price to be more competitive..

That being said I own one non dji battery from eBay.. Forget who I got it from.. It was brand new in a brown -non dji box.. My mom got it as a gift for me for Xmas (she didn't know there was a difference) me instead of being a **** and telling her to return it.. Dispite what Iv read on the net, and my better judgement I kept it and used it..

I have used it a total of 10 times or so, charged prolly 15 times, I have noticed no change in behavior from my p3a when flying with it.. I get the EXACT same flight times with it as well.. But never like to go super far with it just because there's always that chance Something could go wrong. I never got a "warning, not a dji official battery" message.. And it charges and reacts the same as my originals do in every condition, warm or cold..

One thing I don't like tho, is whenever the battery is used down to 1 bar left, and I shut my motors down after a flight, the quad makes a clicking noise.. It's either the quad or the battery.. Don't know which is making the clicking noise but it's loud.. But soon as I recharge it and put it back in my quad it will stop, and won't click again until it's at 1bar again for batt%.. It's very strange but I just put up with it.. Again I try not to fly really far away with it.

The battery I have looks identical to the stock ones, only the battery wrap is a lighter grey color, the battery green leds are dimmer and slightly off color, and on the battery all the info is the same, except instead of saying "dji intelligent flight battery" it says "compatible with phantom 3"

My mom said the battery was roughly 65$ give or take... My opinion.. I would not buy another one.. Dji original battery's have dropped so much in price I think you would be crazy not to just get an original one. It's not even just the fact that dji is better.. It's the PEACE OF MIND you have when you fly with an original dji battery.. Nobody wants to have to worry when they fly, and when you have an aftermarket battery it can cause you to worry, which is why I never go super far.. I have Grown more and more confident lately of the aftermarket battery, more with each use.. It hasn't failed me yet "knock on wood"

One thing not a lot of ppl will be able to tell you quite yet is how long they will last or how many cycles they can do before being junk.. I have a feeling that the 2 other original dji battery's will far outlast the aftermarket but that's just my Guess. Time will tell.. Who knows maybe the aftermarket will outlast dji.. You never know.

One HUGE reason some ppl say aftermarket batts don't work is cuz of this.. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.. It all will depend on which firmware you have installed on your phantom, and which firmware is installed on the aftermarket battery.. This is the BIGGEST factor with whether the matter will work or not.. I got lucky, but will the next person? Again this is why I feel it's always best just to buy original dji batts.. The peace of mind that it's gonna 100% work for only 20-30$ more. Way worth it imo..

Dji doesn't want ppl buying aftermarket battery's and using them, so to stop them, they Incript a certain code in the firmware for the quad.. And their battery's, and when you get an older aftermarket battery that does not have thay same incription then the dji go app will see there is a difference and will lock you out from flying with it.. So then these company's catch on and find the new incription.. Upload it to their aftermarket battery's.. And then the battery's will work again in the phantom...this will go on and on and on... Back and forth.. Dji trying to lock them out.. And aftermarket company's figuring out the incription to update their batts so they work..

This is why there is so
Much talk about aftermarket battery's not working.. Then working, then not working, then working.. It's the cycle lol.

Hope this helps you

Thank you ! That is the kind of info I wanted. I question the batteries because I have a ATV REPAIR shop and found that aftermarket bearings and other replacement parts are just as good as OEM parts that cost a lot more because of the name on them.

No problem. Glad i could help.

I ran my own automotive repair shop and fixed lots of different vehicles, quads, bikes, snowmobiles, boats and more for 4 or so years.. Started it when I was just 21.. And it worked out great! Loved every minute of it and had lots of loyal customers.. I know what you mean and why you would think the way you do.. But I have also came across many aftermarket parts such as tierod ends and wheel bearings that literally only lasted 10-20k miles when the original factory parts lasted 60-140k miles.

So it's just like anything else, you just gotta try it out, and feel it out.. Use your best judgment, and compare the price to oem, and see if the price difference is worth the risk.. And unless you KNOW it's a quality aftermarket part/battery or whatever, I would always be weary.. Don't get me wrong there are such things as good or high grade aftermarket parts.. But that Doesn't mean they are all created equal.. Go by user reviews, and do your math/research before you buy. Try it out for yourself and decide on your own experience whether you think it's worth it or not to get another..

I agree with what was mentioned. A lipo is a lipo. The only difference is the psu board that DJI has placed on their lipos and the telemetry that might be imbeded. Oh and that its is actually a HV lipo.

I also fly rc helicopters, and yes there is a difference between brands and longevity of the pack and the stated "C" rating.... Its still a lipo. Most lipo's are made in batches and the best runs get sold to the most reputable and most expensive brands who hold a great standard. The less quality packs get passed to Hobby King and the like

I just can't believe that companies would make a product that will not work.

LOL. You've must have never had the pleasure of owning an American made economy car from 1974-1988. Chevette, Pinto, Omni, Vega, Escort.... all complete garbage.

I am sticking with DJI batteries from now on. I thought I was saving money when I bought a pair of after market P3 batteries. With both batteries fully charged I flew the first battery with no problems. The second battery flew for 41 seconds before it settled into the treetops while I held the stick at full throttle. HealthyDrones reported "Bad Cell. What was also bad was the battery firmware was cloned. Both batteries reported the very same internal and exterior serial numbers. HealthyDrones reports indicated I flew the same battery for 40 minutes without recharging. The actual cost was higher than original batteries after considering I had to replace the shell. .

Thanks for this topic. I to think that if after market batteries are so bad so many would not be sold.
People tend to not sale thinks that people don't buy.
If I have an after market battery and it works or I am happy most likely I just use it. But if I have one that fails i tell, everybody I see. So for every horror story are their 3 or 4 happy people.
Not after all this being said my 3 batteries are Dji original. But I do see an after market in the future

DJI batteries, for the phantom 3 at least, are manufactured by Sunwoda.

I bought a brand new MUSTANG MACH 1 WITH EVERYTHING IN IT FOR $3100 TOTAL. Granted I was only making $1.25 a hour then,

I know this is an old thread, but here goes .... first how do you tell if you have authentic DJI batteries? The only way I know is to test the life of the battery by holding down the button and see if the red light blinks 10 times as shown by the deaf guy on a you-tube video (which I thought was an excellent and helpful video). Right now I have 3 batteries and they all look identical. One I can get FPV, one I get everything to work except FPV. All I get is the spinning circle, the third ( which will show me 4 lights whe charged gets nothing. I practice “throttle control” with it and keep it close and over grass.. From what I’ve read I would be happy to buy OEM but I thought they weren’t being made anymore?
Thanks for any input.

Your battery has nothing to do with your fpv.
Authentic batteries say DJI on them.

That’s interesting because none of my batteries have a DJI on them. My battery knowledge is restricted to what I’ve read on line and seen on you tube.
Thanks for the reply.

I'm sorry. I meant it will say Phantom on it.

For the record... Haven't been flying all that long at all... Of the 4 batteries I have owned (currently have 3)... The only one that failed was the OEM DJI that came shipped in the Phantom. The PowerExtra I have works fine as does the other 2 OEM DJI's...
