RC signal lost

I got my new P3s and charged the batteries, downloaded the app and updated the firmware and it says RC signal lost. I searched 3 pages of threads with the same title. I performed the link procedure and turned on the drone and pressed the link button and the solid red light started blinking. Then I turned on the RC and turned the gimbal dial to the left and toggled the S2 switch three times. The RC started beeping and a few seconds later the red blinking light turned solid and the RC stopped beeping and it still says RC lost signal.
This is my first drone and I'm not sure if I'm missing a step in the set up or if the drone itself is bad. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you update the drone also,it needs it to work..

I'm not sure, how would I update the drone, I did try to link the drone to the RC, but it wouldn't link.

Are you doing these updates outside? If you're inside signals won't get picked up. If you need update your firmware, I can recommend this video here, I followed this one and all went smoothly!
