RC disconnecting/reconnecting to Tablet constantly

For some reason, my RC controller keeps disconnecting then reconnecting constantly from the tablet. It says 'connecting to a USB accessory' at the top of the tablet every couple of seconds. It just started today.
Tablet is Nexus 7 running Android 4.4.4
DJI Go App is 2.5.1
RC Firmware is 1.5.70 (I recently installed the HDMI module and it downgraded the FW)
Aircraft Firmware is 1.6.40

I'm using the stock white USB cable that came with the P3P.

I had the same problem with my Samsung galaxy note 2. I would have to connect with another phone, a galaxy S5, and then it would work. It would even work with the note 2 if I connected it after using the S5 for a bit. No clue what all that means though.

My immediate thought after reading the subject was a bad usb cable, but you probably already ruled that out.
