I've read that descending straight down at a very fast rate can cause the phantom 2 to go out of control.

My question is: What is considered a very fast rate? How many feet per second? I've been very babying it currently when descending and wondering how fast I can let it go down safely.

For me at least when the descent speed causes it to fly erratically slowing the descent always straightens it out. I haven't tried a full speed descent attempt. Also, if you descend at an angle you can bring it down much faster.

Warning: Holding throttle control stick all the way down while airborne will still stop the motors after the prescribed amount of time!

I keep it to about 2m/s descent (sticks a bit less than halfway between center and zero, in most cases), which gets down from 100m in less than a minute. +1 on adding elevator or aileron to the descent.
