If I have the RTH altitude set at 30 but I'm flying at 100 when RTH activates will it stay at 100 as it precedes home or will it decend to 30 from where it is and then go home?
I am hoping it is smart and takes advantage of it's current safer/higher altitude and only decends lower when above home.

If the Phantom is below 30 then it will rise to that height. But if its above it it will stay at the current height.

I wouldn't want to be at 30 ft so I am hoping you are talking meters so 30 meters would be 94.8 ft. Verify the height of. Objects around you and set RTH to clear them all to be safe.

That is correct. I have done it several times. Even with waypoint the last height before comming home is the height it returns at.
